Silicone oils

Silicone oils are used in a very wide temperature range. Products are available for lower than -148 °F (-100 °C) as well as for higher than +752 °F (400 °C). The viscosity is less temperature dependent compared to mineral oils or synthetic aromatic heat transfer fluids.

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!

Do you have any specific questions about our heat transfer fluids, services or applications?
Here you will find all the key information you need, clearly and precisely presented, and always available!

When are silicone-based cooling fluids used?

When are silicone-based cooling fluids used?

They are suitable for very low temperatures down to -112 °F, such as in deep-freeze or cryogenic applications. Benefits include excellent flow properties at extreme cold and chemical stability.

What are the advantages of silicone oil-based cooling fluids?

What are the advantages of silicone oil-based cooling fluids?

Silicone oils remain flexible in use even at very low temperatures and offer high thermal stability. They are ideal for applications with wide temperature ranges and harsh environments.

Are there any limitations with these coolants?

Are there any limitations with these coolants?

Yes. Hydrocarbon-based fluids are often flammable and require special safety measures. Silicone oils are more expensive and may show higher viscosity at extremely low temperatures.

Are silicone-based heat transfer fluids environmentally friendly and compliant with U.S. regulations?

Are silicone-based heat transfer fluids environmentally friendly and compliant with U.S. regulations?

They are generally low-toxicity and safe to use, but must be disposed of according to local regulations.

Are silicone oils compatible with all seals and materials?

Are silicone oils compatible with all seals and materials?

Not completely. While silicone oils are compatible with many metals and plastics, they can cause certain elastomers—such as silicone rubber or natural rubber—to swell or weaken. Therefore, compatible sealing materials should always be used.
